A postcard from… Edinburgh Zoo (April 2017)

Images taken at Edinburgh Zoo. April 2017.

Our recent visit to Edinburgh Zoo was an opportunity to see various animals we hadn’t previously encountered. Of course, one of the highlights was the panda exhibit where we caught a glimpse of the UK’s only giant pandas – quite an amazing sight. The zoo is also home to the UK’s only koalas, who looked so soft and cuddly! At Penguins Rock we saw a waddle of various types of penguin; rockhopper, gentoo and king penguins. It was nice to see the different varieties all grouped together in the same exhibit, which is Europe’s largest outdoor penguin pool! We enjoyed the Animal Antics talk, which was very cleverly done, with various creatures wondering out from ‘backstage’ right on cue as the keeper spoke in depth about each one. Of course, there was also time to explore the play areas and buy some souvenirs in the gift shop before heading home. This was a lovely end to our time in Scotland.

I am so amazed by all that you packed into your Scottish trip. I have really enjoyed every post. No trip away is complete without a good zoo. What a treat to see a koala bear, l’ve never seen one but your photo looks just like every cuddly toy version I’ve ever seen! the size of the Panda must be quite something to see and wow to the outdoor penguin enclosure. I always think penguins are so full of character.

I’m always slightly undecided on how I feel about Zoo’s but the one in Edinburgh clearly looks after and cares about their animals. The staff do a wonderful job and its one of the nicest in the UK. Also gives kids a chance to see animals up close.

Oh your photos of all the animals are just stunning. Such beautiful close-ups of them. We went to Edinburgh Zoo just before Jessica’s first birthday and loved seeing the pandas there. #countrykids
