Based in Hampshire, The Princess and The Pickle create eco-friendly greetings cards and gifts, featuring original photography and designs.
About The Princess and The Pickle
The Princess and The Pickle began in 2011 as an online journal, full of snapshots and memories of family adventures. It soon developed into my own little creative space with a focus on photography and in late 2018 my online greeting cards shop was born.
My greetings cards are designed with the environment in mind. I purchase all of my card-making materials from UK suppliers and take great care in sourcing products which are as eco-friendly as possible.
The card and envelopes I use are made from 100% recycled fibre from post consumer waste. They are also recyclable. I have a zero-waste policy and any off-cuts of card are saved and used to make biodegradable wildflower-seeded confetti which you can sprinkle inside the cards as an added gift for the recipient. Anything left unused manages to find its way into the kids’ craft drawers where it is certain to be put to good use!
The packaging I use to display my cards are biofilm presentation bags, made with corn / potato starch derived from renewable crops. The bags are fully biodegradable and compostable.
All printing is done ‘in-house’ (literally!) and I participate in an ink cartridge recycling programme.
The Princess and The Pickle’s organic cotton clothing range is made in partnership with Teemill – a company that is committed to sustainable style through organic farming, low waste and renewable energy.
The Princess and The Pickle’s t-shirts, hoodies and tote bags are all made from certified organic cotton and printed in the UK in a renewable energy-powered factory, then shipped directly to you in plastic-free packaging. The clothing is printed on demand, rather than having large amounts in stock, so there is no waste inventory.
Due to the natural materials, the products can even be returned to Teemill and recycled when they’re worn out, making the production cycle itself renewable. This is known as circular fashion, which, along with charity shopping and upcycling, is a way we can help to reduce the amount of clothing which ends up in landfill.
I also make iron-on fabric patches, which are great for adding a splash of colour to clothes, bags and other accessories, or for repairing ripped clothing and covering up holes, helping your much-loved garments last longer. The really great thing about these patches is that they are made from pre-loved denim.
Whether you’d like a different colour background on a card, are looking for a particular image and can’t find it on the site, or you’re interested in my range of wooden gifts which are made to order, please do get in touch (contact details below) and I’ll do my best to help!
I’ve decorated wooden bird feeders, butterfly houses, even a little house for a little pet mouse! Going forwards, these items will be made only from reclaimed or salvaged wood, so availability will vary, but please do ask if there’s something specific you’d like to order.
As well as being able to buy my products online, you’ll also find me at lots of local craft fairs throughout the year. I am open to supplying my products to independent gift shops, please get in touch if you would like to discuss wholesale options or commission bespoke designs.
