Images taken at Cairngorm Mountain. April 2017.
The funicular railway (an inclined track where one vehicle goes up and the other goes down at the same time, counterbalancing each other) transported us up the Cairngorm mountain to the top station and the Ptarmigan restaurant, where we warmed up with a slice of cake and hot chocolate. After battling against the wind on the reindeer hill trip earlier in the day, my son was quite happy to sit by the window and watch as his sister and dad went out on the viewing platform and got rather windswept! Eventually he realised it actually looked quite fun out there and we decided to join them in their fight against the elements! Unfortunately there wasn’t much to see from the viewing platform on this occasion, but an information board showed us what we would have seen if it had been a clear day! Nevertheless, the funicular train had been a fun experience and we were able to send some postcards to family and friends from the highest post box in the British Isles.

Oh my goodness is that really snow I can see on the mountain side there? Well done for braving the weather out on the viewing platform, even if it was a bit of a windswept and foggy view. I must say it does look blustery, but fun in it’s own way too. What a full day you had with the reindeer in the morning too.
Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
It does look a little blowy up there!! I’d imagine the views would be incredible on a clearer day. #countrykids
Gorgeous photos! It does look very windy up there but it looks like great fun!

Wow, that was indeed braving the elements. Sounds like a fun trip though #countrykidsfun
Goodness it does look windy up there! Such a shame it wasn’t a clear day so you could see more of the view but it’s always good to experience these things in all conditions 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #ThePlacesWeWillGoLinky x
What a lovely mountain place to visit! It had been a long time since I sent postcard! You have just reminded me that I need to do one soon!
Now this is something that Monkey would love to do. We really must get to Scotland one day #CountryKids
Wow, this looks amazing, we were up there in February but had no idea this existed
This looks like such fun. My youngest two would love this #countrykids
I think I would have opted to stay inside too! They are pretty impressive though. #CountryKids
I have a train mad toddler who would really really love this. I’m going to show him the photos at bedtime tomorrow when we read his train book (almost every night!) as I know he will really like them. Thanks for sharing, shame the view wasn’t great on your trip up. Kate x
This is amazing, my husband and I did it a *cough* few years ago! It was pretty windy when we went too 🙂 #countrykids
Lovely photos, and well done to all of you for braving the elements, it’s such a shame when the view isn’t great! #ThePlacesWeWillGoLinky
